New Reality Category for Emmys

NEW YORK, April 23: The
Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ Board of Governors has voted to
create a new category for the Primetime Emmy Awards: Outstanding Host for a
Reality or Reality-Competition Program.

According to the
regulations, Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program is
for the proactive “master of ceremony” host and does not include reactive
participants or judges. Eligibility is open to the hosts of programs entered in
the Reality Program and Reality-Competition Program categories. The award will
be presented at the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards, broadcasting live on September
21 at 8 p.m. on ABC.

“Reality television has
become such an integral part of television and our culture, so it only made
sense for us to create this new highly competitive category,” said John
Shaffner, the chairman and CEO of the Television Academy.
