Netflix Ad Tier Sees Western Euro Gains

A new study from Digital i has recorded a 32 percent gain in viewership on Netflix’s ad-supported tier in the U.K., France, Italy, Germany and Spain.

Per the new report, Standard with Ads plan subscribers in those key European territories watched 622.9 million hours in April, up from 470.2 million in November of last year.

Germany recorded the largest single increase, with a 44 percent rise in viewing to 116.9 million hours, followed by Spain and the U.K., rising 34 percent, then France (a 26 percent increase) and Italy (22 percent).

Matt Ross, Digital i’s chief analytics officer, commented, “Netflix’s ad-supported tier has experienced strong growth in the past six months, and the increased takeup has led to increased viewership across all regions. This is good news for Netflix’s ad business, which now boasts strong levels of reach combined with high levels of viewership.”
