Netflix Abandons Qwikster Plan

LOS GATOS: Netflix is no longer separating its streaming and DVD businesses, scrapping its plans to rename its DVD-by-mail service Qwikster.

In early September, Neflix had said in a blog post that its DVD rental service would operate under the name Qwikster, accessible via Qwikster.com. However, in a blog post this morning, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings announced that U.S. members will continue to online use one website, one account and one password for the unlimited streaming and unlimited DVDs.

"It is clear that for many of our members two websites would make things more difficult, so we are going to keep Netflix as one place to go for streaming and DVDs," said Hastings.

"This means no change: one website, one account, one password… in other words, no Qwikster."

He also said that while the July price change "was necessary, we are now done with price changes."
