BEIJING: Pay-TV technology and applications provider NDS says that it is tripling its investment in staff and infrastructure in China this year to meet the strong demand for digital-TV services.

Earlier this year, NDS noted that it had upped its headcount in China by 73 percent in the space of one year. Local workforce numbers will continue to expand throughout this year, through both domestic hires and relocation from existing operations in India and Israel. NDS is looking to build partnerships with Chinese companies in the consumer electronics, semiconductor, systems integration and digital-TV applications markets, as it has done with set-top box manufacturer Changhong for interactive applications. NDS is also partnering with DOXTV to roll out DVR and push VOD functionality in China.

“We believe that Chinese digital-TV technology will have a major impact on the global pay-TV market, as other countries start to seek out Chinese knowledge, experience and products," said Sue Taylor, the chairman of NDS China and senior VP and general manager of NDS Asia Pacific. "We already have significant resources in China, and accelerating our investment now and in the future allows us to rapidly increase our support for the dynamic and growing Chinese digital-TV market."
