NBCU Dating Format Gets Swedish Commission

LONDON: Momma’s Boys, a dating format from NBC Universal, has secured its first international production deal, with Swedish broadcaster TV 4.

The deal has been made for production of ten hour-long episodes of the series, which originally ran for six episodes on NBC in December 2008 and January 2009 in a prime-time slot. Local Swedish production outfit Titan will film the show on location this summer for a fall 2009 launch. The format follows as three possessive, yet loving mothers help their sons choose the perfect match from a wide range of prospective partners.

Additionally, Banijay in France and Nordisk in Denmark have also acquired local production rights to Momma’s Boys.

Simone Nardi, the COO of international TV production, commented, “NBC Universal’s international formats division is driving international growth through the huge interest from broadcasters who are seeking compelling content in a highly competitive global TV market.”

Yvonne Pilkington, the VP of international formats, said, “We are delighted with the growing international success of Momma’s Boys. This compelling format poses the universal question: Who is really the most important woman in every man’s life? Obviously what a man considers to be the perfect woman and what his mother has in mind for him can be miles apart!”
