LOS ANGELES: JP Bommel, formerly the VP of business development for entertainment at Reed MIDEM, has been appointed as managing director and COO of NATPE.

Bommel will officially take up the role in September. The hire comes as part of a succession plan that follows the March announcement that Rod Perth, the current president and CEO of NATPE, would only be renewing his contract through January 2016. After this time, he will transition to a new role with NATPE's board of directors.

Previously, Bommel founded Barton Creek International, which developed global events. He was with Reed MIDEM, organizer of events such as MIPTV and MIPCOM, from 2005 to 2013.

“Over the last three years, NATPE has experienced a re-birth, and the response to our recent events is extremely gratifying,” Perth said. “Industry leaders that represent diverse yet increasingly interdependent businesses realize the international benefit and relevance of participating with NATPE, because they value our complete dedication to content. Without a doubt, content across every platform is the single most important factor in the growth of the global entertainment community.”

Perth continued, “I am very pleased that after interviewing many candidates, the Board and I have selected JP to fill this newly created position. He is highly qualified to serve NATPE and its members in the most effective ways possible. JP and I will be working closely together so that he is able to learn every aspect of our association. JP has already served in a consultancy capacity with our organization, so that experience provides a head start on the learning curve. He has talent, experience and drive, and I’m confident he will be instrumental in continuing our commitment to being nimble and always dedicated to content.”
