WASHINGTON: Following on the recent historic events unfolding in Egypt, National Geographic Channel has slated a week of programs, The Treasures of Egypt, that will examine the heritage of this significant ancient culture.

Treasures of Egypt spans five nights, starting February 22 at 8 p.m., with a marathon to follow on February 26 at 2 p.m. Each prime-time hour will open with newly produced segments that pace the subjects of the show within the context of recent events. These segments will be hosted by Fox News’s Bill Hemmer. They will also include an exclusive interview with Dr. Zahi Hawass, National Geographic Explorer-in Residence who was most recently Egypt’s minister of state for antiquities affairs. Hawass candidly recounts the break-in at the Cairo Museum in new detail. On the slate are Tut’s Treasures, King Tut’s Final Secrets, King Tut and the Lost Dynasty, The Real Cleopatra and Secrets of the Valley of the Kings.

"We have truly witnessed a once-in-a-lifetime event in Egypt," said Steve Burns, the executive VP of global content for National Geographic Channel. "It is important for National Geographic, whose mission is to inspire people to care about the planet, to remind viewers what is so precious about Egyptian heritage and why it matters to the world."
