Murdoch Mysteries Finds New Home

TORONTO: The Victorian-set detective series Murdoch Mysteries from Shaftesbury has been revived by CBC after Citytv cancelled the show.

Citytv announced this fall that it would end the series after its fifth season, which is now in production. Shaftesbury and CBC have teamed up to produce a sixth season of the one-hour drama. The U.K.’s Alibi and ITV Studios Global Entertainment will remain as production partners.

The sixth season, to be aired on CBC, is expected to begin production in spring 2012.

“With so many stories left to tell, we look forward to finally bringing Murdoch Mysteries to a national audience and growing our passionate fan base in partnership with the team at CBC,” said Christina Jennings, Shaftesbury’s chairman and CEO.

Trevor Walton, the executive director of scripted and commissioned programming at CBC, added, "We are delighted to welcome Murdoch Mysteries to the network. It is very exciting to have this much-loved, quality, Canadian drama at CBC. It complements our programming and continues our commitment to Canadian produced drama."
