MIPTV Attendance Down 14 Percent

CANNES: There were 11,500 executives from 105 countries at MIPTV this week, Reed MIDEM announced this morning, reflecting a year-on-year drop of about 14 percent.

That number includes about 3,800 buyers and 1,672 exhibiting companies. "These are good numbers in this climate," said Laurine Garaude, the acting director of the television division at Reed MIDEM, at a press conference this morning. She added: "Everyone is intent on doing businessTelevision delivers huge audiences and the buying and selling of programs is still the main part of business activity at MIPTV."

At MIPDOC over the weekend, meanwhile, there were 458 registered companies, a 9-percent fall on MIPDOC 2009, from 58 countries. The total number of participants was down 12 percen tto 682. A total of 1,359 programs were screened (down 4 percent), with 24,522 screenings on site (down 19 percent). France had the highest representation with 78 companies, followed by Canada with 46, the U.S. with 40 and Germany and the U.K. with 32 each. Rounding out the top ten were Spain, Italy, Australia, the Netherlands and Switzerland.

The most screened titled was Europe Images International’s Body in Love, folowed by France Televisions Distribution’s Apocalypse: The Second World War.
