MIPCOM Opens with 12,800 Participants

CANNES: As MIPCOM formally kicked off this morning, Laurine Garaude, the director of the television division at Reed MIDEM, announced that some 12,800 participants are on site at the event, "with more talent and celebrities than ever before."

Garaude made the remarks at the Focus on Canada press breakfast, which featured a host of Canadian talent, including The Borgias‘ Francois Arnaud; Erica Durance and Michael Shanks from eOne’s Saving Hope; Sara Canning, Danny Rahim and Niall Matter from eOne’s Primeval: New World; and Amber Marshall from Heartland.

Canada is the "fourth largest ranking country here at MIPCOM," Garaude said, with close to 260 companies in attendance, 14 percent up on the year-ago period. "Telefilm Canada is the largest country pavilion at MIPCOM."
