Edinburgh TV Festival Video: Michaela Coel

At the 2018 Edinburgh TV Festival, actress, screenwriter, poet and playwright Michaela Coel delivered the MacTaggart Lecture, in which she spoke about racism and her own sexual assault and how she hopes that sharing her experiences will bring about change.

“I am overjoyed to accept this invitation; it seems in some way a celebration of the rapidly changing world we live in,” the Chewing Gum star and writer said. “But with the constant reshaping of our technological and political world comes a growing need to shine a light and be vigilant rather than complacent about the future of our industry. I feel honored to contribute to this debate on such a prestigious stage.”

In its 43rd year, the Edinburgh International Television Festival is the seminal media event bringing together all parts of the TV world to celebrate the creativity, diversity and inspirational talent in our field and to debate major industry issues. The 2018 event took place from August 22 to 24. To view more content from the conference visit: https://www.youtube.com/edtvfest
