Mexican TV Deal Inked for Vancouver Olympic Games

MEXICO CITY: The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has awarded the Mexican broadcast rights for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games—which kick off tomorrow—to Canal 22.

The broadcaster has acquired non-exclusive free-to-air television and radio broadcast rights for games, with plans to deliver live and highlights coverage. Jorge Volpi, the CEO of Canal 22, said, "As a public service TV station, the goal of Canal 22 is taking different cultural expressions to Mexican viewers. In covering the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games, we will accomplish that goal, since sports are also culture. The individual perspective of Canal 22 allows us to approach these events not only as first-level competitions, but also as an excuse to get closer to the societies that make them possible. We will look at Canada’s history and at the city of Vancouver through sport. Canal 22 is truly proud of being part of the Olympic movement."
