Mel Brooks’ Spaceballs Becomes Animated TV Series

LOS ANGELES, September 21:
MGM, the cable network G4, Brooksfilms Limited and Berliner Film Companie are
teaming up to produce a TV series based on Mel Brooks’ comedy Spaceballs.

G4, which targets a male
audience and is available in 59 million cable and satellite homes in the U.S.,
has exclusively licensed the first run of Spaceballs—The Animated
Series
. The network is involved in
the production of the series, and will premiere the program in the fall of next
year.

MGM Worldwide Television
Distribution Group will officially launch the property at the MIPCOM.

Spaceballs: The
Animated Series
will take Brooks’
satirical eye and spoof the biggest blockbusters of today as well as every
genre of entertainment from movies and reality TV to culture and politics. The
series will be produced by Berliner Film Companie in association with
Brooksfilms. Thirteen half-hour episodes are already in production.
