Mediaset Triumphs in YouTube Battle

MILAN: A court in Rome has ordered YouTube to immediately remove all Mediaset content that was illegally uploaded to the site.

In July 2008, the Italian media giant filed a 500 million euros lawsuit against YouTube for the illegal commercial use of more than 325 hours of content. At the time, Mediaset said that given the amount of unauthorized content on the site “it is possible to establish that the group’s three Italian television channels have lost 315,672 viewing days.” Mediaset was asking for 500 million euros in damages, plus additional compensation “resulting from the loss of advertising revenues from programs illegally distributed on the web.”
