Malaysian Firms Ink Animation Co-Pro Deals

CYBERJAYA: The Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC), National Film Development Corporation of Malaysia (FINAS) and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (SKMM) are hailing the success of their most recent MIPCOM outing, with several local firms inking new production and distribution deals.

Funcel, FINAS and Japan’s Gonzo will co-produce the 26×24-minute SATRIA: The Warriors of the 7 Elements, an action-adventure show for kids 9 to 13 that blends historical facts with fictional characters from Southeast Asia. The show is expected to be completed by fall 2012.

Spacetoon Media Hub is producing three new properties: the feature film Mantera, the 3D movie Princess of Cordoba and the 3D animated series Net.Works! The 3D animation studio Infinite Motion is also at work on several new properties, including Hang Tuah, based on the story of the legendary Malay warrior of the same name.

At the market, Animasia Studio, Agogo International and Neptuno Films announced production of animated action adventure series Kung Fu Chicken, while Ed-Online Technologies, Scrawl Studios and Bryant Whittle signed an agreement to produce the preschool show Red, Yellow & Blue.
