Laureen Ong Exits STAR

HONG KONG: Laureen Ong is exiting the role of COO at News Corporation’s Asian arm, STAR, in the middle of next month, as part of what is expected to be a major restructure of the company.

Ong exits ahead of her contract expiration. She will not be replaced, with all operational units now reporting directly to CEO Paul Aiello. “Laureen has played a key leadership role in rejuvenating some of our brands and expanding the reach of our popular channels globally," Aiello said. "We thank her for her contributions and wish her every success in the future."

Ong joined STAR in May 2007 from several years running National Geographic Channel in the U.S. Her departure is said to be part of a planned restructure at the company, which broadcasts more than 60 services in 13 languages, reaching in excess of 300 million viewers in 53 Asian countries.
