Latin American Sales for Globo

SÃO PAULO: A number of comedy and drama series from Globo TV International are heading to channels in Argentina, Honduras, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Paraguay and Peru.

Argentina’s Channel 7 went for City of Men (Cidade de Homens). Already a success in Brazil, City of Men follows the adventures of inseparable friends who live in a poor region of Rio de Janeiro. Together, they learn to deal with problems like drug trafficking, poverty and the relationship of the middle class with the inhabitants of the favela.

Vica TV, from the Honduran media group Belleville, took on The Cleaning Lady (A Diarista) and Normal People (Os Normais). Presenting the confusions of a nutty maid in the different houses that she works in, The Cleaning Lady has already been sold to countries like Peru, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, Paraguay, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Bolivia. Normal People is a modern comedy that looks at the abnormality that is hidden away in the life of an apparently normal couple. Its successful with audiences in Brazil led to a feature-length film that was a box-office hit. In addition to Honduran Vica TV, Globo TV International marketed the comedy to Equavisa from Ecuador, Telle Antillas from the Dominican Republic, ATV from Peru and Cerro Corá from Paraguay.

"We believe strongly in the strategy of offering our partners a wide ranging portfolio, made by a producer of varied genres," said Raphael Corrêa Netto, the director of international sales at Globo TV International. "The new contracts for broadcasting our new series in Latin American countries are important steps in this direction."
