L.A. Screenings: New from Disney Media Distribution

LOS ANGELES: The brand-new documentary-style series The Muppets is one of the new shows that buyers can screen from Disney Media Distribution (DMD).

The Muppets, picked up for Tuesdays on ABC, will explore the Muppets’ personal lives and relationships, both at home and at work, as well as romances, breakups, achievements, disappointments, wants and desires. Also picked up for ABC's Tuesday lineup is Quantico, which DMD will be screening for buyers. The drama is about a diverse group of recruits that have arrived at the FBI Quantico base for training. The latest series from ShondaLand's Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers, The Catch, will be part of the screenings as well. Set to air on ABC midseason, the thriller centers on the strong, successful Alice Martin. She’s a fraud investigator who’s about to be the victim of fraud herself by her fiancé. Between her cases, she is determined to find him before it ruins her career.

Another DMD highlight is Uncle Buck, set for ABC's midseason schedule. It is based on the hit movie of the same name, about a fun-loving but irresponsible guy who needs a job and a place to stay. By happy coincidence, his nieces’ and nephew’s nanny has just quit and his brother and sister-in-law need his help. His unconventional personality may just make him the right fit for the family and they may be the answer to his problems, too.

Wicked City, another ABC midseason series, follows a unique case set in a noteworthy era of L.A. history, starting with a murder case from 1982 centered on the rock ’n’ roll, cocaine-infused revelry of the Sunset Strip. Alliances are formed between detectives, reporters, drug dealers and club-goers to solve a serial murder case.

DMD will also be screening the ABC midseason series The Real O'Neals, about a Catholic family whose lives take an unexpected turn when surprising truths are revealed. Instead of ruining their family, the honesty triggers a new, messier chapter where everyone stops pretending to be perfect and actually starts being real.

Buyers will have the chance to screen two new ABC Sunday night dramas from DMD: Of Kings and Prophets, a biblical epic, and Oil, which takes place in North Dakota during an oil boom. Meanwhile, the thriller The Family, an ABC midseason series, follows the return of a politician’s young son who was presumed dead after disappearing over a decade earlier.

The CBS Wednesday night medical drama Code Black is among the new highlights the studio will be screening. It is based on a documentary by Ryan McGarry and is set in the busiest, most notorious ER in the nation. Also a highlight is the Criminal Minds spin-off Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, headed to CBS midseason, which centers on the specialized International Division of the FBI tasked with solving crimes and coming to the rescue of Americans who find themselves in danger while abroad.

In the way of comedy, DMD is screening Grandfathered, slated for FOX's Tuesday lineup, starring John Stamos.
