KidScreen Awards Winners Announced

NEW YORK: At the KidScreen Summit, awards were presented to recognize excellence in children’s programming, with winners named across preschool, kids, tween/teen and family categories, among others.

In the preschool segment, Bert & Ernie from Sesame Workshop/Misseri Studio won for best animated series, while Sesame Workshop’s Sesame Street won for best non-animated or mixed series. Best one-off, special or TV movie was Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!: Wubb Idol from Bolder Media in association with Starz Media’s Film Roman Animation Studio. Best companion website went to Sid the Science Kid from KCET/The Jim Henson Company.

In the arena for kids’ programming, best animated series went to Nerd Corps’ League of Super Evil. Best non-animated or mixed series went to FETCH! with Ruff Ruffman from WGBH Educational Foundation. BBC Children’s Newsround won for best one-off, special or TV movie, while Sesame Workshop’s The Electric Company site won for best companion website.

For tween/teen content, Fresh TV’s Total Drama Island was the winner in the animated category and The Foundation TV Productions’ Escape from Scorpion Island won for best non-animated or mixed series. CR Entertainment’s Aisling’s Diary was the best one-off, special or TV movie. The Next Star website from Tricon Film & Television received the award for best companion website.

Winners in the family segment included Figaro Pho from Vishus Productions/Australia Broadcasting Corporation/South Australian Film Corporation as best animated series; Design Squad from WGBH Children’s Programming as best non-animated or mixed series; and Kindle Entertainment’s Dustbin Baby as best one-off, special or TV movie. The best companion website from the family category was Yo Gabba Gabba!‘s from W!LDBRAIN.

There were also a range of creative talent awards given out. Best design went to Booky’s Crush from Platt Productions/Shaftesbury Films. The award for best acting was given to Dustbin Baby. BBC Children’s Newsrounds won for best writing, while best animation was awarded to Figaro Pho. The Electric Company was recognized for best music, while WordGirl from Scholastic Media and Soup2Nuts had the best voice talent.

KidScreen partnered with Nickelodeon Consumer Insights to set up international focus group panels of kids and parents in the U.S., the U.K., Germany, France, Australia, Brazil, Korea and Japan to determine the winners in the viewers choice category. Bert & Ernie was selected as best preschool program, Arthur from Cookie Jar Entertainment and WGBH Educational Foundation won for best kids program and Total Drama Island was the favorite title in the tweens/teens segment. The viewers choice for best family program was Booky’s Crush.
