J.J. Abrams to Receive 2013 International Emmy Founders Award

NEW YORK: The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has selected the creator/writer/director J.J. Abrams as the recipient of the 2013 International Emmy Founders Award.

Abrams’ series currently running include Person of Interest, Fringe and Revolution. He has also just been announced as the director for the next installment of Star Wars, for release in 2015, and his latest feature, Star Trek Into Darkness, debuts this month. Abrams is the founder and president of Bad Robot Productions, which is partnered with Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros. Studios.

He will accept the award, which recognizes an individual who crosses cultural boundaries to touch our common humanity, at the 41st International Emmy Awards Gala, taking place Monday, November 25, in New York City.

“J.J. Abrams is a master of all forms of entertainment who has made an indelible mark on our global culture,” said Academy president and CEO Bruce L. Paisner. “Even at this comparatively early stage of his career, he has earned this international recognition and we look forward to presenting the Founders Award to him.”

"I am deeply grateful to Mr. Paisner and the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for this honor, and will thank them, perhaps to an embarrassing degree, in person, in November,” commented Abrams.
