International Emmy Awards Nominees Announced

CANNES: At a press conference today, the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences unveiled the 40 nominees across 10 categories and 19 countries for this year's International Emmy Awards.

The nominees come from Angola, Austria, Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, France, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the U.K. and the U.S. The winners will be announced at a black-tie ceremony on November 23 at the Hilton New York Hotel.

“Every year, the international television community competes to be recognized for excellence on the International Emmy’s global stage,” said Bruce L. Paisner, the president and CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. “We congratulate the 2015 nominees for their outstanding programs and performances.”

Drama series up for the International Emmy are Engrenages (Spiral) from France, MOZU Season 1: Night Cry of the MOZU from Japan, My Mad Fat Diary from the U.K. and Psi (Psy) from Brazil.

The contenders in the comedy category are Doce de Mãe (Sweet Mother), Fais Pas Ci, Fais Pas Ca (Don’t Do This, Don’t Do That) from France, Familia en Venta from Colombia, Puppet Nation ZA from South Africa and Canada’s Sensitive Skin.

The best actor category features Engin Akyurek in Kara Para Ask (Black Money Love) from Turkey, Emilio de Mello in Psi (Psy) from Brazil, Maarten Heijmans in Ramses from the Netherlands, and Rafe Spall in Black Mirror White Christmas from the U.K.

The nominees for best performance by an actress are Anneke von der Lippe in Øyevitne (Eyewitness) from Norway, Fernanda Montenegro in Doce de Mãe from Brazil and Sheridan Smith in Cilla from the U.K.

The documentary category sees a competition between Africa’s Wild West: Stallions of the Namib Desert from Austria, Antes de que Nos Olviden (Before We Are Forgotten) from Mexico, Growing Up Down’s from the U.K. and Miners Shot Down from South Africa.

The nominees for arts programming are Buenaventura No Me Dejes Mas (Buenaventura, Don’t Leave Me) from Colombia, Illustre & Inconnu: Comment Jacques Jaujard a Sauvé le Louvre (The Man Who Saved the Louvre) from France, Messiah at the Foundling Hospital from the U.K. and South Korea’s Trial of Chunhyyang: A Girl Prosecuted by Feudalism.

Telenovelas up for the award are Ciega a Citas (Date Blind) from Spain, Império (Empire) from Brazil, Jikulumessu from Angola and Mulheres (Women) from Portugal.

The nominees for non-English U.S. prime-time program are Arrepentidos U.S.: El Infierno de Montoya, El Mejor de los Peores, Narco Tec and La Voz Kids.

In the way of non-scripted entertainment, the nominees are 50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy from the U.K., Flying Doctors from Belgium, Barones de la Cerveza from Argentina and South Africa’s MasterChef South Africa.

The category for TV movie/miniseries features La Celebración from Argentina, Common from the U.K., Soldat Blanc (White Soldier) from France and Storytelling of Hostages from Japan.

In addition to the presentation of the International Emmy Awards for programming and performances, the Academy will present two special awards. Downton Abbey writer and creator Julian Fellowes will receive the 2015 International Emmy Founders Award. Richard Plepler, the chairman and CEO of HBO, will receive the 2015 International Emmy Directorate Award.
