TORONTO: OMNI Television has picked up the fifth season of the Indian reality series Bigg Boss, which premiered yesterday on the channel.

Bigg Boss, which follows the Big Brother format, features 14 celebrity contestants living together in a mansion with no connection to the outside world for 100 days. The weekly three-hour reality series is filmed in Karjat, India and hosted by Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt. The contestants are monitored by a mysterious person known as Bigg Boss, whose only presence in the house is his voice. They do not have access to television, phones, Internet, clocks, pens or paper, and are only allowed to speak in Hindi. Each week the contestants must nominate two of their fellow housemates and the two or three with the most votes are put up for a public vote via phone and text message. The contestant with the least amount of votes is evicted.
