ID to Air Doc on the Cropsey Legend

SILVER SPRING: The documentary Cropsey, which examines the mystery surrounding five missing children in Staten Island and the real-life "boogeyman" linked to their disappearances, is to make its broadcast premiere on Investigation Discovery (ID) on August 13.

Filmmakers Joshua Zeman and Barbara Brancaccio present their investigation into the "Cropsey" myth, which tells of an escaped mental patient who lived in the abandoned tunnes of the Willowbrook mental hospital and came out at night to steal children off the streets. This story had been considered an urban legend until 1987, when a 13-year-old girl who had disappeared was found buried in a shallow grave on the grounds of Willowbrook. Four other missing children have been linked to the case but not found. Following its successful film-festival and theatrical run, Cropsey will make its TV debut on August 13 at 9 p.m. on ID.

"As a compelling documentary shedding light on these still-unsolved missing children cases, Cropsey combines the real-life mystery and intrigue that Investigation Discovery’s audience craves," said Henry Schleiff, the president and general manager at Investigation Discovery. "Zeman and Brancaccio offer an intense personal investigation into the truth behind the myths and we’re proud to feature this chilling retrospective on ID."
