Hungarian Launch Set for Comedy Central

LONDON/BUDAPEST, June 16:
MTV Networks International (MTVNI) will debut Comedy Central Hungary in
October, with the fully localized local-language channel becoming available to
1.5 million households via cable and satellite.

The channel will broadcast
a mix of locally produced and international programming, including signature
Comedy Central shows dubbed into Hungarian such as The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, South Park and The Colbert Report,
along with acquired content like The Simpsons, Family Guy and My Name is Earl. A
Hungarian-language Comedy Central website will also launch alongside the
channel.

Bhavneet Singh, the
managing director and executive VP of emerging markets for MTVNI, said: “The
launch of Comedy Central in Hungary is a great example of how we are building
scale with our entertainment channels across Central and Eastern Europe. This
integrated approach allows us to provide Hungarian audiences with a one-stop
shop for comedy, and the ability to interact with our brand across all
platforms. Our aim is to offer a bouquet of channels that caters to every
demographic, whilst providing viewers with the content they want, in their
local language.”

Levente Málnay, the
general manager and VP of MTV Networks Hungary, added: “The appetite for comedy
in Hungary is huge. Amongst TV viewers, comedy is the third most popular TV
genre, and we wanted to provide for this massive demand by launching a top-quality
comedy channel. Our aim is to deliver comedy to people’s homes where they can
enjoy it in comfort. We are committed to showcasing domestic comedic talent,
whilst giving our audiences the opportunity to view acclaimed international
shows.”
