House of Cards Set for Exclusive Netflix Debut

BEVERLY HILLS: The TV series House of Cards, starring Academy Award-winner Kevin Spacey and executive produced by David Fincher, is set to debut exclusively in the U.S. and Canada on Netflix.

Netflix has committed to a minimum of 26 episodes of the political thriller series, which is based on the book and BBC mini-series of the same name. Fincher, the director of The Social Network and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, is serving as executive producer and will direct the pilot, which was written by Beau Willimon of Farragut North. Production on Media Rights Capital’s House of Cards is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2012, with the debut set for late 2012.

“The gripping, serialized one-hour drama has become a very important part of the Netflix experience,” said Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s chief content officer. “David Fincher’s unique vision, the indelible performances of Kevin Spacey and the original version of House of Cards, all have a big following among our members, giving the series a very good chance of becoming a fan favorite. We are thrilled to be working with this amazing team.”
