PROGRAMMING STRATEGY: Owned by NBC Universal Global Networks, Hallmark Channel in Asia offers a variety of English-language entertainment anchored in real-life situations. The female-focused channel showcases prime-time programs that appeal to modern women, including first-run dramas, inspirational talk shows, unscripted lifestyle programs that celebrate the human spirit and iconic TV series and movies.

"Inspirational and intelligent quality programs have great appeal and viewership," says Karen Johnston, NBC Universal Global Networks Asia Pacific’s programming director, of the slots the network is looking to fill. "Hallmark Channel is always on the look out for such programs in all genres from dramas, talk shows to unscripted series."

First-run dramas on the channel include Army Wives, Merlin, The Starter Wife and American Dreams. Further series include The Nanny and Without a Trace. Lifestyle reality programs that celebrate the human spirit are strong performers, such as The Biggest Loser, which the channel will be launching a local version of later this year. The Oprah Winfrey Show has been a perennial top rating series as well.

Movies also feature in the lineup. Titles airing this month include Mystery Woman: Snapshot, Back to You and Me, Mystery Woman: At First Sight, Murder 101, Jane Doe: Vanishing Act and We Were the Mulvaneys

UPCOMING HIGHLIGHTS: The Biggest Loser Asia is slated to premiere at the end of 2009. Not only is the show Hallmark’s first original production, but it’s also Asia’s first regional weight-loss reality series. The Biggest Loser Asia will be hosted by Malaysian TV personality, actress and singer Sarimah Ibrahim. A total of 30 contestants will participate, with the winner to receive a cash prize of $100,000.
