LOS ANGELES: Camelot producer GK-tv and Gale Anne Hurd’s Valhalla Entertainment are developing a period drama, Port Royal, for FX and FOX International Channels.

Based on an original idea by Hurd, the show is set in the late 17th century on the island of Jamaica, chronicling Port Royal’s rise as the “richest and wickedest city” in the new world, and as a self-governing safe haven for pirates, corrupt politicians and ruthless merchants. It will be produced by GK-tv, Valhalla Entertainment, FX Productions and FIC.

“We are delighted to be partnered with a network that never shies away from provocative storytelling which is ideally suited to the decadent and dangerous world of Port Royal,” said Craig Cegielski, the president of GK-tv.

“I’ve long been a fan of FX’s original programming, and I’m thrilled Port Royal has found a home with them,” said Hurd. “I’m looking forward to working with FX to make the show I’ve envisioned, and one that fits in perfectly with their incredible slate. I couldn’t be more excited to be working with Fox International Channels again after our unbelievable success with The Walking Dead.”
