George McGhee Exits BBC

LONDON: The BBC’s controller of program acquisitions, George McGhee, is stepping down from his post, with Sue Deeks set to take over in the interim.

In his six years with the pubcaster, McGhee has acquired shows like Heroes, Mad Men, Damages and The Tudors, as well as blockbuster movies like the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. In the short term, Sue Deeks, the head of series program acquisitions, will take over from McGhee.

"After 30 years in television I really want to take a break and spend more time in Scotland and France," McGhee is quoted as saying. "My team here has been very supportive and fun. I have been so lucky in having the only career I ever wanted and I am proud and pleased that my last major position has been at the BBC which is still the finest broadcaster in the world."
