Former Zodiak Exec Launches Scorpion TV

LONDON: The newly established specialist content distributor Scorpion TV, founded by former Zodiak Entertainment senior executive David Cornwall, will make its market debut at MIPCOM.

Scorpion TV’s MIPCOM slate includes factual highlights such as Believe: The Barack Obama Story, produced by On the Potomac Productions. The special is an intimate portrait of the U.S. President that aired on ABC and TV One. This is My Country, produced by Rice N Peas Films, looks at Australia’s controversial Intervention Laws. The documentary spotlights a nation ruptured by a deep racial divide and contested history. Further documentaries are La Americana, produced by Peoples Television. The story focuses on a woman who smuggled herself into the U.S. to pay for her daughter’s medical bills in Bolivia. From the science genre, the 3×1-hour Brain Fitness is produced by Santa Fe Productions. The series explains how we can improve the speed and agility of our brains.

Scorpion is also making its foray into the production arena and is looking for partners for the documentary Thrilla in Sevilla to coincide with the World Cup next year. The project will look at the infamous France vs Germany match in 1982, which brought back echoes of the way and forced both countries to look at aspects of their national character.

Cornwall commented: "With the leader of the free world being of dual heritage there hasn’t been a better time to take a closer look at all the various colors, religions and creeds that make up a modern society and provide content that reflects this. Market research has showed that broadcasters are looking for more culturally diverse content as well as the very best stories to drive audiences to their channels."
