Five to Revive Classic Daytime Quiz Show

LONDON, October 2:
FremantleMedia is producing an updated version of the general-knowledge quiz
show Going for Gold, which is
set to launch on Five on October 13.

The hour-long show
features four studio contestants competing to become the daily champion and win
a cash prize. Going for Gold consists
of three rounds: Beat-the-Buzzer, Four-in-a-Row and Head-to-Head. Each winner
is given the chance to return on the next show to defend their title.

There will also be a
ten-minute companion show, Going for Gold Extra, which pits the winner of the daily show head to
head with an interactive winner at home for the chance to win a cash
prize.

The original series,
hosted by Henry Kelly, was first broadcast in the late ’80s and ran for nearly
a decade. The new Going for Gold will
be presented by newsman John Suchet.

Suchet commented: “I’m
delighted to be presenting Going for Gold on Five. After years of reading the news this will be the first time
I’ve hosted a quiz show so it’s a brand-new challenge and I’m really excited to
try something new.”

Five’s director of
programs, Ben Gale, said: “We’re delighted to be bringing back Going for
Gold
to Five this autumn. It is a
much-loved and fondly remembered quiz show and to have someone of John’s
experience to front the series will only add to its already iconic status.”
