Factual, Movies, Animated Content Feature on Breakthrough Slate

TORONTO, October 5: On the heels of the success of its
Breakthrough Animation business, Breakthrough Entertainment is heading into
MIPCOM with an expanded factual slate and a new crop of TV movies.

“Breakthrough Entertainment as a whole has experienced
remarkable growth throughout this year,” said Tanya Kelen, the company’s head
of distribution. “We are delighted that the factual programming division is
rapidly following suit and expect to sign additional international deals at
MIPCOM. Our presence at this year’s market as a worldwide producer and
distributor of high-quality programming further establishes our reputation and
enhances our position as an industry leader in factual entertainment.”

Two of the company’s newest factual programs, Between the
Sheets
and War of the Wheels, have fared particularly well. Between the
Sheets
has recently sold to TV4 (Sweden),
Ananey (Israel) and Antena 1 (Romania), and is available as a format.
And National Geographic India recently
picked up the full first season of War of the Wheels. The
series is available as a format and has been sold to Discovery Asia.

The completed TV movies available to international buyers at
the market are The Road To Christmas, Absolution and Cradle of Lies. “We are extremely proud of the industry’s positive
response to our new TV movies division,” said Kelen. “In the very short period
of time since Breakthrough announced its launch into the TV movies genre,
Marina [Cordoni, Breakthrough Entertainment’s independent distribution agent
for TV movies] has done a terrific job promoting our newest high-quality
programs and we look forward to continuing the growth of the division and to
building our successful partnership with her.”

“My strategic partnership with Breakthrough has proven to be
remarkably fruitful,” said Cordoni. “The Road To Christmas, Absolution and Cradle of Lies each
boast the criteria of global hits: stellar casts, heartwarming stories and
strong production qualities.”

Breakthrough Animation will be focusing on multi-platform
vignettes/mobile content for three of its key shows at the market. The company
is creating original vignettes for Atomic Betty, Miss BG and Captain
Flamingo
. “As audiences move toward
accessing their content beyond the traditional television broadcast platform we
want to provide unique programming for these new mediums,” said Kevin Gillis,
executive producer and managing partner of Breakthrough Animation. “Traditional
television content was intended to be viewed on an all-encompassing wide screen
format to bring the audience into the program’s world. The advent of portable
personal devices has created the opportunity for a one-on-one experience
between our characters and our audience. Produced for the mobile screen, we
have designed our multi-platform programming to provide distinctive content for
these mediums because we believe global audiences will be looking for an
original viewing experience that differentiates it from re-purposed fare.”
