EMI Scores Music Rights for Pocoyo

MADRID: Zinkia Entertainment has signed an agreement that grants the global music rights, excluding Spain and the U.K., for the animated series Pocoyo to EMI Music Publishing.

EMI Music Publishing will administer all music rights for Pocoyo’s theme music, incidental music and the main and end title music for all releases, including the TV series, which debuted in 2005, and a feature film in the works. There are already two seasons available with a third on the way.

Pocoyo is currently licensed to broadcasters in more than 150 territories worldwide, and has garnered a range of international awards. Pocoyo airs in the U.S. on weekends on Nick Jr., Univision’s Planeta U and various PBS stations.

“EMI Music Publishing is the latest in a series of key strategic partners we have secured as we continue to build the Pocoyo brand worldwide,” said Maria Doolan, the managing director of brand and business development at Zinkia Entertainment. “Music plays an integral part in the brand identity of and attraction for Pocoyo, and there is enormous potential to market and exploit the music element worldwide.”

Pocoyo is an exciting property and proven global brand, and we are looking forward to working with Zinkia to extend the music element of the offering,” commented Jonathan Channon, the executive VP of media and business development at EMI Music Publishing. “Adding Zinkia to our portfolio of production and media companies further develops our strategy to focus on the very successful area of children’s programming.”
