LOS ANGELES/LONDON: DRG has been tapped to represent The Gurin Company’s newly commissioned entertainment format Get Up and Dance, which is slated to premiere later this year on CMT in the U.S.

DRG holds the worldwide rights, excluding North America and the U.K., where Gurin retains rights. The format, which has a working title, will be executive-produced by Phil Gurin. The Gurin Company is also behind the karaoke game-show format The Singing Bee, which is produced by Juma Entertainment and is also represented by DRG.

Get Up and Dance is a prime-time format that challenges viewers of all ages to recreate famous dance routines and record themselves. The most talented and entertaining entries will be selected, then judged by the Get Up and Dance live studio audience, where contestants will perform live on stage.

Phil Gurin, the president and CEO of The Gurin Company, commented, “Get Up and Dance is not just another dance contest—it’s a warm-hearted family-entertainment show that focuses on the performance more than the dance skills. I’m happy to confirm that we are continuing to partner with DRG, who I believe has the passion and dedication to grow our latest format into a global brand—just as they did with The Singing Bee.

Andrea Jackson, the managing director of acquisitions at DRG, added, “At MIPTV we experienced one of our best ever format markets and the year ahead looks even busier. We’re delighted to be working with Phil and his team on the global rollout of Get Up and Dance as local productions. This great format has been developed by one of TV’s most trusted and consistent entertainment producers, which I believe, coupled with DRG’s reach has every potential to achieve huge success around the world.”
