LONDON: DRG is to launch sales for MTV’s U.S. version of The Inbetweeners, based on the hit Channel 4 series.

The British series was created by Bwark Productions and was an original commission from Channel 4’s E4. The show has also been a success in the home-entertainment market in the U.K., and broke box-office records with the release of its motion picture. Now, the show is headed to the U.S. for a launch on MTV in 2012.

David Janollari, the head of MTV programming said, “The Inbetweeners is a hilarious and outrageously funny story about a group of friends plotting a course through the awkward and often humiliating journey of being a teenager. It’s a truly universal story and one which we all believe will be a great success in the United States as well as internationally.”

Jeremy Fox, the CEO of DRG, added, “This is a truly fantastic comedy and it’s certainly going to light-up schedules around the world in 2012. I’m delighted that The Inbetweeners has joined the growing list of U.K. formats that have successfully travelled to the U.S. We now have over a dozen British shows being made there—and many more in various stages of development.”
