LONDON: Former stars from the BBC sci-fi series Doctor Who David Tennant and Sophie Aldred are to voice the lead characters of the multiplatform animated series Tree Fu Tom, a co-production between CBeebies and FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME).

Tennant and Aldred will lend their voices to the characters Tom and Twigs, as well as their friends, in the series that targets 4 to 6-year-olds. Tree Fu Tom is about an 8-year-old boy who is transported to an enchanted kingdom. The show will air on CBeebies in 2012.

“We have a fantastic cast on this show, who work brilliantly as a team,” said Kay Benbow, the controller of CBeebies. “Their rapport permeates through to the program reflecting the characters as a group of friends working together. We are delighted to have David on board as part of the team. The physical energy in his performance works so well for animation and his sense of fun and cheeky humor will delight the older CBeebies audience.”

Alison Stewart, the head of CBeebies Production, Animation and Acquisitions, commented: “The physical actions of Tree Fu have all been devised and approved by movement development specialists and are designed to benefit all children at a crucial time in their growth. The movements have been developed from therapeutic regimes aimed at assisting those who suffer from Dyspraxia—a developmental movement disorder that affects up to 10 percent of all children.”
