Discovery Locks in Deal with Five, Bolsters EMEA Channels

CANNES, April 7: Discovery Networks UK has signed a
deal with Five that includes a number of co-productions and acquisitions, while
Discovery Networks EMEA has re-launched Discovery Science and is launching
Discovery World.

The deal between Five and Discovery UK includes collaborating
on six additional hours of My Shocking Story, 10 half hours of How Do They
Do It?
and 10
one-hour episodes of Crimes that Shook the World. Five has also picked up the
first-window rights for Storm Chasers, a 4×1-hour series about a crew that chases tornadoes in
the U.S., and Weird
Connections
, a
new 26×30-minute series about unusual and revolutionary experiments that are
currently being conducted.

Meanwhile, Discovery Science was
re-launched across Europe and the Middle East on April 1, while Discovery World
will launch in place of Discovery Civilisation across Europe on April 18,
showcasing a more updated, knowledge-focused brand that will offer documentary
programming across a wide variety of genres. Discovery Networks EMEA
distributes 12 brands to 170 million subscribers across 103 markets in Europe,
the Middle East and Africa. Discovery Science reaches 15 million homes across
Europe and the Middle East, while Discovery World reaches 14 million homes
across Europe.
