Discovery Fills New International Head of Content Post

SILVER SPRING: The newly created role of international head of content for Discovery Communications is to be filled by Luis Silberwasser, who currently serves as senior VP of the content group for Discovery Networks Latin America/U.S. Hispanic and general manager of U.S. Hispanic Networks.

The appointment comes of the heels of Discovery Communications announcing the global launch of TLC, one of the fastest-growing female lifestyle channels in the U.S. The international version of TLC will be available in more than 75 markets reaching more than 100 million households by spring 2011. The new role of Silberwasser’s is being created to accelerate DNI’s ratings success across the company’s global channel portfolio of more than 100 networks in more than 180 countries.

Mark Hollinger, the president and CEO of the division, to whom Silberwasser will report, commented, “Discovery is focused on leveraging its programming strength to enhance our ratings global performance. Luis has demonstrated strong creative and strategic leadership in his current role as head of our Latin American content group and this is why I am expanding his role.” Hollinger added, “He will be a great asset to the wider international team as we launch key programming initiatives, including TLC, around the world.“

In other news, Sahar Elhabashi, the chief operating officer at Discovery Networks International, will be leaving the company and her position will not be replaced. Hollinger continued: “It is with regret that I am announcing that Sahar will be leaving the company. She has made an outstanding contribution to DNI’s business over the last three years and has been a tremendous asset. I wish Sahar every success in the future.”
