DISCOP EAST Tops ’07 Record

BUDAPEST, July 1: The 16th
edition of DISCOP EAST brought together 1,729 participants, up from last year’s
1,522, for three days of dealmaking in Budapest, while the second edition of
the day-long DISCOPRO networking and training program drew 121 participants.

There were 1,003 content
buyers at the market, representing 804 TV stations, thematic channels, DVD and
theatrical distributors, territory agents and production companies, satellite,
cable and IPTV operators from 33 Central and Eastern European countries.
Additionally, the market drew 596 sales executives, representing 421 sales organizations
from 52 countries.

While the demand was high
for specialized programming, drama, feature films and documentaries, the
appetite for factual and lifestyle programming, telenovelas and animation also
remained healthy. There was an increase in demand from previously slow markets,
linked to the emergence of thematic channels as well as the repositioning of
existing channels and platforms.

Next year’s DISCOP EAST
will take place from June 17 to 19, with DISCOPRO set for June 16, at the
Sofitel Atrium Hotel in Budapest.
