DAIT Secures New South African Free-TV Agreement

LONDON, June 11:
Disney-ABC International Television (DAIT) and South African Broadcasting
Corporation (SABC) have concluded a new free-TV volume agreement for a range of
content, including the hits Desperate Housewives and Hannah Montana.

Aside from Desperate
Housewives
and Hannah Montana, the deal includes library programs such as My Wife and Kids, along with a selection of hit movies from the
portfolios of Walt Disney Pictures, Disney/Pixar, Touchstone Pictures and Miramax Films,
which will air in a new monthly Wonderful World of Disney time slot. Preschool
programs, including My Friends Tigger & Pooh and Mickey Mouse
Clubhouse
,
are also part of the deal.

This
new agreement builds on the success of DAIT’s content on SABC’s channels, such
as the Disney Channel original movies High School Musical and High School Musical
2
, which
aired last fall on SABC3, ranking in the top ten films on the channel that year.

Tom Toumazis, the
executive VP and managing director of Disney-ABC International Television for
EMEA and Canada, said: "We're pleased to renew our relationship with SABC,
building upon the success of our content on its channels. This agreement will expand
the breadth and appeal of Disney content in South Africa."

Mvuzo Mbebe, the chief
executive of content enterprises at SABC, added: "This agreement will
launch some very exciting new content on our channels. We're sure our viewers
of all ages will find something to enjoy in this wide new selection of hit
entertainment.”
