Comcast Profit, Revenues Up

PHILADELPHIA: Comcast Corporation’s second-quarter profit rose 53 percent to $967 million, on revenues of $8.9 billion, reflecting a 4.5-percent gain.

"We delivered solid results in the second quarter, highlighting the strength of our subscription businesses and our continued focus on expense and capital management," said Brian Roberts, the chairman and CEO. "At the same time, we are innovating and investing in our products and services and executing on our strategic initiatives, including going ‘All-Digital’, deploying wideband, and launching a wireless service and On Demand Online. We believe these initiatives and our focus on delivering a superior customer experience strengthen our competitive position and build long-term value for shareholders."

At the cable platform, revenues were up by 4.6 prcent to $8.5 billion, and average revenue per video customer increased by 7.4 percent to $117.74. The platform ended the period with 23.9 million video customers, 15.3 million Internet customers and 7 million voice customers. The total base stands at 46.2 million customers, a 3.7-percent rise. And in the programming segment, revenues increased by 5.1 percent to $384 million.
