MONTREAL: Almost 40 Canadian firms and 130 international outfits have signed up to participate in the Connect with Canada session at MIPTV, one of Telefilm Canada’s initiatives to help companies from the country boost their worldwide activities.

During the session, Canadian producers and distributors will meet with foreign partners interested in co-producing or co-venturing with Canada, or in acquiring Canadian content.

MIPTV will also see 65 Canadian companies participating under the Canada Pavilion umbrella, organized by Telefilm Canada. The organization recently announced that at MIPTV 2008, companies participating under the Canada Pavilion achieved more than C$5.2 million in sales and more than C$7.7 million in anticipated sales.

“MIPTV is strategically important for all Canadian companies seeking business opportunities with foreign industry representatives,” said Sheila de La Varende, the director of national and international business development at Telefilm Canada. “By supporting Canadian companies at MIPTV, Telefilm helps the industry achieve maximum business benefits, at a time when the development of international markets has become a key factor in guaranteeing the success of companies operating in the television, film and multiplatform-content sector.”

Companies under the Canadian Pavilion include 9 Story Enterprises, Amberwood Entertainment, Breakthrough Entertainment, Decode Enterprises, Nerd Corps Entertainment, Portfolio Entertainment and Skywriter Media & Entertainment, among others.
