Buddenbrooks Leads Off Bavaria Slate

MUNICH/CANNES: A varied slate will be on offer from Bavaria Media Television at the upcoming market, with highlights such as the TV version of Heinrich Breloer’s Buddenbrooks: The Decline of a Family.

The adaptation of the Nobel Prize-winning novel by Thomas Mann is now available as an extended three-hour version (2×90 minutes). Buddenbrooks tells the story of the rise and fall of a merchant family in Northern Germany. It features well-known German actors such as Armin Mueller-Stahl (The International, Eastern Promises), Jessica Schwarz (The Perfume) and August Diehl (The Counterfeiters).

Also from Bavaria’s portfolio are the the event films The Author of Himself: The Life of Marcel Reich-Ranicki and Behind the Wall. The Author of Himself is an adaptation of the best-selling autobiography by one of Germany’s most influential literary critics. Behind the Wall looks at a young family who tries to escape from the German Democratic Republic in the mid-1970s.

Another Bavaria Media highlight is a brand-new telenovela from France, Second Chance. With 180 episodes, shot in HD, Second Chance is currently airing on TF1.
