Brit Queer as Folk Heads to Ovation

SANTA MONICA: The original British version of Queer as Folk makes its U.S. premiere on Ovation next month, kicking off the cable network’s “Art Out Loud" programming strand.

Beginning June 20 at 7 p.m., “Art Out Loud" explores the influence of lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender culture on film, literature, performance art and television. The programming stunt begins with Channel 4’s 1999 series Queer as Folk, penned by Russell T. Davies (Doctor Who, Torchwood), about three young gay men in Manchester. The show was subsequently adapted for the U.S. and ran for five seasons on Showtime.

“Art Out Loud” will also include the basic-cable premiere of Follow My Voice: With the Music of Hedwig, and will feature Brokeback Mountain, Velvet Goldmine, Tipping the Velvet, Torch Song Trilogy and Truman Capote.
