BBC Worldwide, ProSieben Team for Science Series

LONDON/MUNICH, October 16: BBC Worldwide is working with
ProSieben on The Truth About Food, a new
science series that aims to dispel the myths about the food we eat every day.

The show, which will be called Food Check—Was Essen
wirklich kann
in Germany, will use original
experiments on volunteers and medical imaging to show the real science behind
the food we eat. Each episode will be thematic, exploring questions such as how
to keep slim, how to stay young and beautiful, and how to feed your children.

The BBC, BBC Worldwide and ProSieben have staged customized
versions of the experiments with local volunteers and scientists in both
Germany and the U.K. ProSieben will also devote a substantial part of its
weekly schedule to additional locally produced programming.

Isabelle Helle, BBC Worldwide’s head of German-speaking
territories, noted, “ProSieben understood from the start the two reasons which
make The Truth About Food such an
important series for BBC Worldwide. First, the depth and quality of its
research make it the biggest ever undertaking of its kind on television.
Secondly, it allows us to work with international partners to package a
fantastic format into genuinely bespoke event television across the schedule.”

ProSieben’s editor in chief, Thomas Zwiessler, added, “The
close collaboration with the BBC, BBC Worldwide and the Discovery Health
Channel U.S. has enabled us to realize this ground-breaking series. Some of the
accomplished experiments are complex and spectacular, others seem fairly
simple. But all the experiments provide in-depth information and an
understanding that will change our eating habits—forever.”
