BBC Three Announces New Slate of Drama Commissions

LONDON, July 10: BBC Three has commissioned six new
youth-targeted drama pilots that are set to premiere on the channel later this
year, including the dark thriller Things I Haven’t Told You, produced by Tiger Aspect.

The new drama pilots include Being Human, produced by Touchpaper TV (NY-LON) and written by Toby Whithouse (Doctor Who, Torchwood). The pilot follows three young roommates and the tribulations of
co-habitation, which are further challenged by the fact that one of them is a
vampire, one is a ghost, and the other is a werewolf. From Tightrope
Productions, Mrs Inbetweeny follows siblings whose parents are estranged from each
other and are not around to care for their children. The siblings’ only option
is to be brought up by their long-lost uncle from the U.S., who happens to be a
pre-op transsexual. The series is written by Caleb Ranson and executive
produced by Paul Abbott.

BBC Three has also commissioned
the pilot for the futuristic kung-fu live action drama Phoo Action, which is set in London in 2012 and is based on the comic
strip Get The Freebies, which appeared
in The Face magazine. Phoo Action is written by Matthew Enriquez Wakeham, Peter Martin and
Jessica Hynes and produced by Matthew Read for BBC Scotland.

Other drama pilots include the
dark thriller Things I Haven’t Told You, written
by Lisa Mcgee and produced by Tiger Aspect. The drama follows the events after
a girl’s disappearance. Also on BBC Three’s new drama slate are W10 LDN, penned by Noel Clarke (Kidulthood, Doctor Who),
focused on the lives, loves, ambitions and dreams of a group of young teenagers
living in a housing estate in West London. W10 LDN will be produced by Kudos Film and TV.

Rounding out the new drama
commissions is The Six, which follows a
group of six teenage strangers from different walks of life whose lives
interconnect in and around the streets of London. The drama is produced
by Shine Productions and written by Howard Overman (Hotel Babylon).

Danny Cohen, the controller of BBC Three, commented:
"I'm very excited by the fresh feel of the drama pilots that we've
commissioned. They are bold, vibrant pieces that draw together emerging talent
with some of the strongest voices in British drama. These pilots are the first
step in the development of a new generation of youthful drama series for BBC
Three."
