BBC Snaps Up Crime Dramas for Africa, Nordic Region

CANNES: BBC Worldwide Channels has acquired two new crime dramas, Garrow’s Law and Above Suspicion, for BBC Entertainment in Africa and the Nordic region.

Garrow’s Law is a four-part drama, acquired from Warner Bros. International Television, inspired by the life of the 18th-century lawyer William Garrow, starring Andrew Buchan of Cranford, Alun Armstrong of New Tricks, Lyndsey Marshal of Rome and Aidan McArdle of The Duchess. The series, which was created by Tony Marchant, will premiere on BBC Entertainment in Africa and the Nordic region late this year.

The first two series of Above Suspicion, the thriller based on Lynda LaPlante’s novels, were acquired from Zodiak Rights. The series stars Kelly Reilly of Mrs. Henderson Presents and is set to air in Africa from August.

Bun Scrase-Dickins, the VP acquisitions for BBC Worldwide Channels, said: “Our priority remains to keep growing the number of premieres on our channels. Crime drama has always found an eager fanbase on BBC Entertainment and I’m sure our viewers will be thrilled at the arrival of these two hugely successful and popular titles.”
