LONDON: While BBC Showcase officially gets under way on Sunday, BBC Worldwide has already secured 22 sales for Human Planet, which focuses entirely on human beings as a subject.

The eight-part series is a co-production with Discovery Channel and France Television. Human Planet is headed to Japan on WOWOW, Italy on RAI, Israel on IBA, Slovakia on RTV Slovak, Spain via Wanda Films and Thailand on Thai PBS, among other sales. The program is narrated by John Hurt and examines the relationship between humankind and nature. Each episode focuses on a particular habitat and reveals how its people have adapted to life there.

BBC Showcase, which runs from February 27 to March 2, will feature a range of natural history programs. Among them Frozen Planet, narrated by Sir David Attenborough, and Earthflight. Further highlights include The Bear Family and Me, Madagascar, Nature’s Miracle Babies and The Truth About Lions.

Steve Macallister, the managing director for sales and distribution at BBC Worldwide, commented, “We’re thrilled that Human Planet, like so many BBC natural history titles before it, has proved to be such a big draw for broadcasters around the world. As in previous years, our Showcase slate reinforces BBC Worldwide’s reputation as a leading distributor of natural history programming, and this landmark series is a case in point.”
