BBC Networks Roll Out in Africa

LONDON, September 2: BBC
Worldwide Channels has launched BBC Entertainment, BBC Lifestyle, BBC Knowledge
and CBeebies in Africa on Multichoice’s DStv platform, featuring a range of
first-run acquisitions.

BBC Entertainment will
include programs such as Primeval,
Gavin & Stacey, Jekyll and Life on Mars. BBC Lifestyle will showcase Grand Designs, The Baby Borrowers, How to Look Good Naked and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Shows set to air on BBC Knowledge include Gambling
in Las Vegas
, Under the Knife, The Most Hated Family in America, Earth—The Power of the Planet and Ross Kemp on Gangs. Headed for CBeebies are The Koala Brothers, Charlie and Lola and Me Too!

Channels’ director of programming for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said, “I am delighted that the introduction of our new
thematic channels will enable African audiences to view more of the quality
content they come to expect from the BBC.”

He continued: “We have a
fantastic lineup of shows that we will bring to DStv viewers in Africa for the
first time. Brand-new episodes of Top Gear and Michael Palin’s New Europe will premiere on BBC Knowledge. The new series of Life
on Mars
and Extras will
launch on BBC Entertainment alongside brand-new shows such as Primeval and BAFTA
award-winning comedy Gavin &
Stacey. The Koala Brothers
and Charlie
and Lola
will light up little
learners on CBeebies and Extreme
Makeover: Home Edition
and How to Look
Good Naked
will air on BBC Lifestyle.”
