AXN HD Grows Korean Presence

HONG KONG: SPE Networks—Asia has secured carriage on all three IPTV platforms in Korea for the English-language general-entertainment channel AXN, which has been broadcasting in HD in the territory since March.

AXN debuted on Korean Telecom’s Qook TV in November 2008, and is now also available on the basic package of LG Dacom’s myLGtv and SK Broadband’s broad&tv. Targeting adults 18 to 44, AXN features drama series, blockbuster features, adventure-reality and first-run lifestyle sports programs from around the world, as well as original productions.

Ricky Ow, the senior VP and general manager of SPE Networks—Asia, said, “Since the day we launched AXN in Korea, we have announced our intention to aggressively pursue this market. I am proud to say that our expansion strategy is on track, and to be the first international GE [general-entertainment] channel to secure placement on all the IPTV platforms in Korea is certainly icing on the cake.”
