Austar Carriage for Al Jazeera English

DOHA: Al Jazeera’s English-language news network has launched on the Austar pay-TV platform in Australia.

Al Jazeera English joins more than 40 other channels in Austar’s Starter Package, which reaches about 750,000 subs across regional Australia.

Announcing the carriage deal, Phil Lawrie, the director of global distribution at Al Jazeera, said: “Australia is one of the most important English-speaking markets in the world and a country with a strong appetite for international news channels. With the launch of Al Jazeera English on Austar we have greatly expanded our reach into Australian homes. We look forward to providing audiences across Australia with a fresh and alternative perspective on global news and current affairs."

John Porter, the CEO of Austar, added: “With the addition of Al Jazeera English to our Starter Package, now all Austar subscribers will be able to enjoy the widest possible range and choice of international news channels of any pay TV platform in Australia."
